Hurricane Beryl pummeled the Texas coastline as a Category 1 storm on Monday, bringing with it life-threatening winds and and major power outages. Wind speeds were reported as high as 80 mph, and flood warnings were issued across several areas of the Texas coast.

Beryl hit Tulum as a Category 2 hurricane and toppled trees but caused no injuries or deaths before weakening to a tropical storm.

Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane about 4:30 a.m. near Matagorda, Texas, which is about 200 miles from Austin.
